Original article as submitted by Deco Belle for Mocha Bride Magazine Summer 2009:

As Eartha Kitt sang 1962, “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend”. But today, crystals and pearls are too! Bring on the bling in clear crystal, or colored gemstones, and cubic zirconia (CZ). Save a considerable sum while being in style for a summer wedding. Rhinestones are out of style, as Swarovski crystals offer fire and brilliance at a low price, with a luxe look.

Vibrant colors are hot on the catwalks for this season. These intense hues of aqua, lapis, coral, lemon, peach and hot pink are rainbow bright now! Intense blue and aqua jewelry can definitely take care of the adage: Something Old, New, Borrowed, and Blue. Colorful crystals and CZ set in gold or silver offer a dramatic statement for modern gowns, and a striking accent for strapless or skinny-strap dresses.

Dramatic upswept hair lends very well to another hot trend this year, the
demure stud earring.

Studs, or button earrings, are feminine and traditional, and are always in good taste. Larger stud earrings have a vintage charm. The 2009 Oscars showcased this trend as well as the other IT shape for this year: the drop earring. From Michelle Obama (the First Lady is also a major stud earring trendsetter, since official portrait to European visit) to Angelina Jolie, drop earrings, are all the rage.

A dramatic turn from these trends is lace filigree; it’s the new, old thing. Lace is delicate, darling, and delightful, and makes any dress complete with that traditional, romantic look.

Also, collar or statement necklaces are in right now
; be sure to pair with small earrings that grant the focus to the grand necklace.

Bridesmaids are generally allowed more color, and more drama with both dress choices and accessories. Our global jewelry store at Deco Belle Inc. has often honored requests to send duplicates of certain jewelry items for a bridal party, as the bride often gifts her bridesmaids jewelry that they can use in the wedding, and if it’s fabulous enough, to be worn at various occasions.

Whether you want to accessorize glamour, romance, or modern, there are various ways to implement the spring and summer 2009 trends in your wedding. Wishing you the best on your special day, I hope that these tips will help you stay stylish, without breaking the bank.

Spa Week is upon us, and this brings massages, facials, body polishes, pedicures and manicures, dermabrasion, and waxing down to $50 at participating spas. Many of these treatments normally retail for up to three times this amount, a recessionista deal indeed! This special treat takes place for one week in both the spring and fall.

This spring's savings on spas is 04/13/09 - 04/18/09 and includes spas from both the USA and Canada, with 25 cities participating, including New York City, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Boston, Washington D.C., Virginia, Baltimore, Atlanta, Detroit, Chicago, Dallas, Miami, Oregon, Denver, Minnesota, Seattle, Arizona, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco and Toronto.

Overheard: For these spa specials, is there a limit to the number of $50 Spa Treatments one can try?

In researching this topic: -No. You may select as many treatments as you like, however keep in mind that your body does have limits. Facials and microdermabrasions should be limited to a time frame recommended by your aesthetician, to allow the skin to heal. Also, for massages, the muscles should recuperate and rest (though one could argue that they are at ultimate rest in the hands of a qualified masseuse).

The Spa Week website has great tips on spa etiquette, new developments in skin care and treatments, eco-friendly green spa guide, and more.

Amber isn't just a beautiful gemstone, or a first name, but also a wonderful winter scent, substantial enough for the winter season.

This is a natural resin with a rich, powdery, dry scent. Its soft and warm spicy florals are rich but not overpowering. It is concentrated enough to withstand the winter chill with the dry air that would normally evaporate scents quickly.

Our favorite Amber scent is C.O. Bigelow Chemists Perfume Oil in Amber, $15: Add a few drops of this potent oil to your favorite fragrance-free body lotion for an allover light scent, or if you feel daring, use a few drops sparingly directly on the skin.

Other favorites include Byredo Parfums Gypsy Water Eau de Parfum, though significantly pricier, it's a wonderfully decadent (or shall we say "decodent" as in Art Deco, our favorite era) perfume. As well as Estée Lauder's Sensuous Eau de Parfum, $49.50 that has a more earthy undertone and a floral parfum that makes it easy to layer to transition from day to evening.
